Join our Bioinformatics team at Roche Diagnostics Cape Town and leverage the latest advances in computational biology, data science and machine learning to support the Research and Development efforts for our acclaimed Library Preparation reagents that bring precision to Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
Position summaryAs a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist, you will provide bioinformatics support for product research and development, as well as the marketing, sales and on-market product support teams.
You will collaborate and innovate with bioinformatics scientists, software engineers and molecular biologists to build products that will impact patient care for many years to come.
Responsibilities Partners closely with R&D teams to provide bioinformatics expertise including experimental design, data analysis and visualisation.
Collaborates broadly to drive innovation and promote cohesive teamwork.
Serve as a bioinformatics expert on product development project teams.
Follows best practices for coding, version control, pipeline development, documentation and reproducible research.
Presents technical reports or summaries and delivers presentations to diverse audiences, including project teams, collaborators, and customers.
Assists on-market support teams with training and handling customer enquiries.
Requirements Masters in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science (or another equivalent) plus 2
years of experience, or a PhD.
Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, able to work in a cross-functional team environment, leading/influencing where appropriate.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision, using discretion and independent judgment within broadly defined practices and policies.
Experience with NGS data analysis, e.
g.
WGS, exome, RNAseq.
Experience developing and applying Bioinformatics workflow/methods/systems.
Demonstrable proficiency in coding and associated code version control in a language such as Python, JAVA, R, etc.

Snakemake, Nextflow in a Unix/Linux high performance computing environment.
Experience with Cloud, containers and container management systems, e.
g.
Docker is a plus.
