Camp Jockey Hollow, a summer day camp located in Mendham, New Jersey, has 212 beautiful acres of land with pristine hiking trails, a large swimming pool, low ropes challenge course, zip lines, an equestrian center, archery range and more.
Waterfront Director
Responsibilities:
Follow and enforce all safety rules and regulations of the waterfront in line with Girl Scout, ACA, ARC, and NJ Youth Camp standards Attend pre-camp training Organize waterfront programs Train, direct, and supervise waterfront staff Communicate with Camp Director about problems, changes, and make suggestions related to waterfront activities and personnel problems/changes Integrate waterfront activities with unit plans and other specialized camp events Document and diligently report any health and welfare concerns to the Camp Health Supervisor Maintain proper camper-staff ratios according to outlined standards Conduct opening and closing site inspection of equipment, life jackets, caps, buddy system, and swimming records Manage care and use of all waterfront equipment and arrange necessary repairs Collaborate with Program Director to plan and conduct special waterfront events Conduct lost swimmer rescue drills, in-service training, and staff meetings weekly Take pre and post camp inventory of all waterfront equipments, providing Camp Director with requests Maintain cleanliness and order of waterfront and surrounding areas Follow guidelines of the American Red Cross in swimming and boating instruction procedures Maintain alertness for campers and staff in the water and their needs Lead and assist in swimming lessons and oversight of boating activities Report any waterfront concerns to the Waterfront Director Maintain cleanliness of pool, equipment, and surrounding areas Assist Program Director with implementation of rainy day programs Learn and perform emergency procedures effectively Maintain current American Red Cross swimming skill requirements, certification requirements, and documentation of related activities Promote high camper and staff morale Write and submit a seasonal report of waterfront area and activities Understand and practice waterfront procedures, health, and safety Perform other duties as assigned Waterfront Director
Qualifications:
Must be 21
years of age Valid certifications in WSI, LGT, Waterfront Module, Head Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid Must practice strict safety procedures while using sound judgement Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing or walking for various lengths of time Knowledge of and ability to enforce Girl Scout, American Camp Association, DOH, and NJ Youth Camp safety procedures Must be attentive, efficient, and timely Regularly speak, read, write, interpret, and respond to words in the English language Must be able to communicate well with other staff and community partners Membership in GSUSA is required for the duration of contracted employment period Experience in supervision strongly preferred Note This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee(s) incumbent in this position.
